Barbarian Lord Storms the Pages of Worlds Without Master

Barbarian Lord Storms the Pages of Worlds Without Master

The auspex have been read. The bones, cast. We can no longer turn from the path the wyrds have laid before us. Out of the icy north a stoic outlaw and skald treads our way—soon to cast his prodigious shadow upon our door.

Issue seven of Worlds Without Master will feature, for the first time, a brand new Barbarian Lord tale!

The Vile Rites & Arcane Rituals Behind Worlds Without Master

The Vile Rites & Arcane Rituals Behind Worlds Without Master

Yesterday we looked back on the first year's worth of Worlds Without Master, with particular attention paid to how viable it has been as a publishing model. You can read about that here, but the gist of it is that, for my purposes, the ezine is fairly sound.

Now our starry eyes shall look back to the very origin of each issue. How do I make the decisions I do? Where does the Patron Horde's hoard go?

Sunday Morning Swords

Sunday Morning Swords

A tradition of brunch and sorcery is born. Inspired by a childhood filled with Thundarrs, Blackstars, Galtars and He-Men, we're bringing the weird fantasy back to the weekend morning.

Over on the G+ Swords Without Master community, every Sunday morning, we're gathering into online hangouts to play weekly games. All are invited. No experience with the game necessary (though it might help if you've read it).

Revisiting the Classics: "Geeking Out About the Dice in Wolfspell"

Revisiting the Classics: "Geeking Out About the Dice in Wolfspell"

Back in December of 2013, very shortly after the release of the second issue of Worlds Without Master, I made this post explaining some of the math behind Wolfspell that made its central mechanic so alluring to me. Below is a very subtly revised version of the post. I've been thinking a lot about this trick lately in the context of yet another game design. I do not know as of yet if that that game will see the light of day, but I'm fairly confident Wolfspell will not be my last game to use these dice.

Revisiting the Classics: "Conan, What is Best for Patreon?"

Revisiting the Classics: "Conan, What is Best for Patreon?"

When I first made this post in December of 2013, Worlds Without Master had only two issues under its belt. It's been six months, two issues and a holiday annex since then and I've learn quite a lot in the meantime, but none of it contradicts what I say below. In particular I feel the "Wait Not for Your Audience!" section has panned out quite nicely. As of June 12th, 2014, Beatrice is up to $91.25 per comic, which means she has gained, on average, $40/month worth of pledges per month. Personally, Worlds Without Master has grown a little over $300 in pledges over the same time period (about $50/issue per month). That's some thrilling acceleration taking us to interesting places.
